John Wesley Towers, Sr. of Greensboro, MD, formerly of Denton, MD, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, MD. He was 74 years old.
Born in Denton on September 12, 1943, Mr. Towers was the son of the late Frank Jewell Towers and Grace Paige Lane Towers. He had lived in Denton all of his life and graduated from North Caroline High School in 1962. He was a self-employed brick mason before working for Thompson Masonry in Centreville and for Rick Thawley. He also worked at the Caroline American Legion Post 29 for almost 40 years. In addition to work and family, he liked to fish.
Mr. Towers is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Jane Towers of Greensboro to whom he was wed September 25, 1964; two sons: John W. Towers, Jr. of Harrington, DE and Robert James Towers of Federalsburg, MD; two brothers: Frank C. Towers of Simi Valley, CA (Marion) and Charles R. Towers of Easton, MD; one sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Fluharty of Federalsburg; three grandchildren: Andrew Michael Mimms, Brittaney Josephine Towers, and Rachael Towers; and a sister-in-law, Della Marie Russum of Greensboro (Tucker). In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Ellen Snyder and Peggy Joyce Gray.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday, April 24th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A. located at 12 South Second Street in Denton where friends may visit from 11 to 12 before the service. The interment will be in the Greensboro Cemetery.
