Marie States Shaffer

Marie States Shaffer of Denton, MD, passed away on January 2, 2019 at the memorial Hospital in Easton, MD.  She was 89 years old.

     Born at home in Hillsboro, MD on July 8, 1929, Mrs. Shaffer was the daughter of the late John Henry States and Ida Mae McMullen States.  Her husband, D. Earl Shaffer, died March 5, 2006.

     Mrs. Shaffer had lived in Caroline County all of her life.  She had worked as a grocery clerk for the Acme store in Denton for over 30 years.  She had helped her husband as a painter when he was woodworking and she also loved to nurture, feed, and care for others.  Most importantly, she was a terrific mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She was loved by all who knew her well.

     Mrs. Shaffer is survived by a son, Daniel B. Shaffer (Kathy M.) of Denton; a daughter, Linda S. Margrey (Stu) of Denton; two sisters: Margaret Jump of Easton and Audrey Schmitt (Albert) of Denton; one brother, Dawson States (Dick) of Parker, Colorado; 4 grandchildren: Jessica M. Hanes (Greg), Miranda Stutzman (Jason), Marie E. Shaffer (Wade Mullinix), and Samantha E. Lingenfelter (Bill); 11 great grandchildren:  Emily, Adam, Elizabeth, Olivia, Tess, Lewis, Jillian, Kasey, Haden, Harper, and Henley.  She was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters: Mary, Henry, Eva, Wilson, Irvin, Earl, Gladys, Carlton, and Francis.

     A viewing/visitation for Mrs. Shaffer will be from 6 until 8 PM on Saturday, January 5th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A. located at 12 S. 2nd Street in Denton.   Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM on Sunday, January 6th, at the Denton Church of the Nazarene located at 10660 Greensboro Road in Denton. The interment will follow in the Denton Cemetery.
