Patricia Mandrell Obituary

Patricia Ann (Towers) Mandrell, 81, peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family and devoted husband on October 7, 2017 in Huntington Beach, California. She was born June 10, 1936 in Denton, Maryland, the second child of the 5 children of Harold Cecil Towers and Ida Marie (Benson) Towers.

Patricia graduated from Caroline High School in Denton, Maryland and worked for the Telephone Company in Baltimore until she married her high school sweetheart, John Kenly Mandrell, in June of 1958. That same year they moved to California and in May 1961, she gave birth to their son, becoming a mother and homemaker. Through the years, Patricia was a regular volunteer at her son’s schools, and then at her Baptist Church where she worked with young children. For many years, she was also the church’s wedding coordinator. Pat loved to oil paint images of the sea and was known for growing beautiful orchids and for her affection for butterflies.

Patricia is survived by her husband, John Mandrell; her son and his wife, Craig and Erika Mandrell of Thousand Oaks, CA; her granddaughter and her husband, London and Chase Decker of San Diego, CA and granddaughter, Makenna Mandrell of Thousand Oaks, CA; her sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Don Durham of Lake Wylie, SC; and her brother and sister-in-law, David and Tina Towers of North Myrtle Beach, SC.

A memorial sea service aboard the “Orca Too” was held for Patricia on January 20, 2018. Her cremated remains were respectfully delivered into the sea off the coast of Orange County California. An open house was held that afternoon at her home attended by immediate family, neighbors, friends, and church family.
