Anna Rachel Lord of Denton, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Residence at Eden Green in Denton. Known as Ann, she was 100 years old.
Born in Hobbs, MD on June 16, 1925, Ann was the daughter of the late Edgar Willis and Susie Hunter Willis. Her husband, Malcolm “Mac” Lord passed away June 13, 2009. In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was preceded in death by 10 siblings: brothers Eddie, Harry, Dick, Bill, and Charles “Buck”; sisters Helen, Ruth, Margaret, Mary, and Florence.
A 1942 graduate of Caroline High School in Denton, Ann had lived in Caroline County all her life. In 1953, she opened Ann’s Florist Shop in Denton. After selling the shop to raise her children, she worked in Caroline County School cafeterias until her retirement in 1986. She was also a member of the Caroline American Legion Post 29 Auxiliary.
Ann lived a full and active life with her husband, enjoying boating on the Choptank River, plane rides to Atlantic City, traveling, and camping all over the country. Upon retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Florida.
Ann was known for her love of walking and could often be seen strolling through town well into her nineties. She was an avid reader and a huge Orioles fan. Ann especially enjoyed supporting her grandchildren, attending their extracurricular activities and sporting events whenever she could. She also took great pleasure in family gatherings and visits from her nephew Dorsey Wooters and wife Joanne, as well as her niece’s husband Steve Schmick.
Ann is survived by four children: Alan Lord (Rose Peix), Richard Lord (Terry Ann), Maxann Davis (Bill), and Scott Lord (Terri); five grandchildren: Casey Duld (Charles), Mandy Duvall (Rob), Kristin Lord-Buchanan (Brittany), Megan Dorbin (Andrew), Tailor Breeding (William); seven great-grandchildren: Camryn, Luca, Chandler, Drew, Malia, Andie, Mac, and one on the way.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, October 27th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., located at 12 S. Second Street in Denton, where friends may call from 10 until 11 before the service. The interment will be private.
