Arthur George Porter of Denton, MD, formerly of Greensboro, MD passed away on Saturday May 23, 2026, at the University of MD Shore Medical Center in Easton, MD. A Korean War veteran and a member of a historic generation, he was 97 years old.
Born at home in Greensboro on July 31, 1928, Mr. Porter was the son of Harvey George Porter and Margaret Kornrumpf Porter. After graduation from Greensboro High School in 1945 Mr. Porter served in the National Guard and worked for Chrysler in Newark DE and Pet Milk Company in Greensboro. In 1951 he was called to active duty in the US Army serving in the 7th Regiment 2nd Infantry Division experiencing some of the toughest fighting in the Korean War and earning the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars. After discharge he worked as a dairy farmer with his father and brothers in Greensboro until 1970.
In 1970 he married his wife Ruth V. Porter, and they moved to Denton where he went to work for the State Highway Administration, retiring in 1990. He and his wife maintained an interest in raising and caring for numerous farm animals for many years. He had been a member of VFW Post 7937 and the Denton Church of Brethren. He was known for his sharp wit and his clever observations along with his dry sense of humor.
Mr. Porter is survived by a sister-in-law, Leona Porter, and seven nieces and nephews: MaryAnn Palmer (Walter), Dennis Porter (Amy), Richelle Trayer (Scott), Amy Benner (Michael), Kenneth Porter (Marcia), Jonathan Porter (Sarah), and David Porter (Alison). In addition, he is survived by many great nieces and nephews. Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his wife Ruth V. Porter (April 29, 2004): his two brothers Carlton H. Porter and Richard K. Porter: a sister, Alberta Porter Weer Gelletly: and a nephew, Michael Porter.
A memorial service will be held at 1045 AM on Friday June 12th, at the Moore Funeral Home P.A., 12 S. Second St in Denton MD where friends may call 45 minutes prior. The interment will be in the MD Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock MD at 12 noon.
