Joan Harris of Denton, MD passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at The Residence at Eden Green in Denton. She was 83 years old.
Born in Ridgely, MD on November 29, 1942, Joan was a life-long resident of the Eastern Shore and was a 1959 graduate of Easton High School. Her husband, Ernest T. Harris, passed away on January 30, 2025.
Joan worked at Beneficial in Easton before becoming a stay-at-home mother to raise her children. She later returned to the workforce and joined Caroline County Public Schools, where she worked in the cafeterias of several schools. She retired as Cafeteria Manager at NCHS. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed cross stitching. She liked to be outdoors and enjoyed gardening and camping. A wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, her family was the most important part of her life.
She is survived by a daughter, Wendy L. Melvin (Daniel) of Denton; two sons, Martin A. Harris (Laura Lee) of Denton and Donald L. Harris (Stephanie) of Felton, DE; six grandchildren: Cassidy Stafford (Justin), Tyler Melvin, Maddie Harris, Chad Melvin, Chase Harris, and Colby Harris; and a brother, John Earl Steward (Danielle) of Federalsburg.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, May 15th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A. located at 12 South Second Street in Denton where friends may call from 1 until 2 before the service. The interment is in Denton Cemetery.
