Barbara A. Ellwanger of Greensboro, MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at the Caroline Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Denton, MD. She was 84 years old.
Born in Greensboro on April 30, 1935, she was the daughter of the late J. Herbert and Carrie Ellwanger. She was a 1953 graduate of Greensboro High School and lived most of her life in Greensboro. Throughout her life she worked in both healthcare and banking. She was a very talented seamstress and also enjoyed needlework and crocheting. Everything she made was perfect and beautiful. She was also an excellent baker and always made special treats for her family and friends during the holidays. She had an amazing green thumb and would grow flowers and vegetables every year. She loved to host game nights for her friends and neighbors, somehow she always won. She was a caring and generous friend to all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Betty Smith and Emily Fry; and her brothers, Richard and Thomas Ellwanger. Barbara is survived by her brother, Bud Ellwanger and his wife Jean; her niece Carrie Donohue and her husband Mike; along with her nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. We will all miss her dearly.
Thanks to both the staffs of Caroline Nursing and Rehabilitation and Compass Regional Hospice for their care and kindness over the past several months. Most of all, thanks to her wonderful friend, Yogi, whose love and support meant so much. Services will be private. If any friends wish to make a memorial donation in Barbara’s memory, the family suggests sending it to Compass Regional Hospice, 160 Coursevall Drive, Centreville, MD 21617.
