Barbara M. Kurtz of Denton, MD, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at the Arcadia of Denton Assisted Living. She was 86 years old.
Born in Baltimore, MD on October 15, 1932, Mrs. Kurtz was the daughter of the late Clarence Stephen Wentworth and Barbara Marie Warner Wentworth. She and her husband, Carl John Kurtz, Jr., were married on June 26, 1954. He passed away on July 29, 2013.
Mrs. Kurtz had worked for the Baltimore Life Insurance Co. and the B&O Railroad as a key punch operator. She had also worked in food service at the Broadneck High School. But, most of all, she was a homemaker Mom. She loved to cook, quilt, sing and spend time with her family and grandchildren. In 1996, she and her husband moved to West Virginia where they retired.
Mrs. Kurtz is survived by two daughters: Lynda M. Kary (Stephen) of Bethel, DE and Barbara L. Ayres (Jeff) of Annapolis, MD; a son, David M. Kurtz (Dawn) of Arnold, MD; a sister, Mary Wentworth Hawkins of Westminster, MD and a brother, Richard Wentworth of Baltimore; and seven grandchildren: David Kurtz, Stephen Kary, James Ayres, Daniel Kurtz, Nicholas Kary, Dustin Kurtz, and Jonathan Ayres and three great grandchildren: David Michael, Holden, and Remi. She was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Stevens, and two brothers, Clarence Wentworth and Earl Wentworth.
The family will receive friends/family from 6-8pm on Friday, October 18th at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV.
A memorial service will be held at 11 o’clock at the Greenwood United Methodist Church, 12031 Winchester Grade Road, Berkeley Springs, WV on Saturday, October 19th. The interment will be in the adjoining church Cemetery. In
