Bonnie Jo Shirley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Bayhealth Hospital Dover, Delaware. She was 69 years old.
Born on November 5, 1956, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Jerry Bertram McMahon and Joanne Ruth Davis McMahon. She retired from Giant Food as a pharmacy technician.
Bonnie had a boundless love of life. Whether she was soaking up the sun at the beach, trying her luck at the casino, decorating for the holidays, or planning her next trip, she embraced every experience with joy and laughter.
Family was at the heart of everything she did. She adored her children and grandchildren beyond measure and was always their biggest cheerleader. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome – her door was always open to friends, neighbors, and even the occasional stray pet. She had a special way of making everyone feel like family.
Bonnie’s kindness, humor, and open-hearted nature left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the laughter, stories, and love she shared so freely.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Shirley, Sr.; her children: Jennifer Adams (Jason), Jeremy Kirby (Bridgett), Jacob Kirby (Nicole), Jason Kirby (Jennifer), and step-son Richard Shirley (Jen); eleven grandchildren: Rylan, Brookelyn, Jaymie, Dalton, Baylie, Austin, Anabella, Luke, Emmalyn, Nathon (Sarah), and Kylie; great-grandchild, Carter; and brother, Jay McMahon (Tina), sister-in-law Patti McMahon; nieces Courtney Williams, Danielle Williams, and Morgan Elzey and her dogs Casey, Storm and numerous cats. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Bonnie was predeceased by her brother, Darrell McMahon; and niece Samantha McMahon.
The viewing will be Friday, November 14, from 6 to 8PM at Moore Funeral Home, P.A. 12 S. 2nd St. Denton, MD. Funeral service will be Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 10AM. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery 5319 Ocean Gateway Queenstown, MD 21658.
