Bruce C. Smith

Bruce Charles Smith of Centreville, Maryland passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023, at his home. He was 69 years old.  Born June 16, 1953, in Grasonville, MD, he was the son of the late “Sonny” and Helen Smith.  Bruce is survived by his brother, “Ronnie” Smith; son, Jeremy Smith; daughter, Stephanie Whitby; 2 grandchildren, Hunter and Kaylee Whitby and many other loving family members and friends.

Bruce was a 1971 graduate of Queen Anne High School, a life-long resident of Queen Anne’s County, residing in multiple small towns from Starr to Grasonville, raising much “Hello” along the way.  He spent a majority of his life working on the water; crabbing, fishing and oystering.  In his career he operated many different workboats, retiring on “The Courtney Lee” which he acquired from his son, Jeremy.  Bruce also enjoyed a variety of hunting activities with deer and duck hunting being a toss-up for his favorite.  He also carried a huge affection for his beloved “JB”, Bruce’s furry canine companion of many years as well as multiple cats and kittens that would wander into his life.

Bruce's family will host a celebration of his life on Friday, May 12, 2023, starting at 6PM at the Ruthsburg Community Hall, 105 Damsontown Rd. Queen Anne, MD 21657.  Please join the family for food, fellowship and storytelling.
