C. James Corkell of Burrsville, DE, died peacefully surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, August 17, 2022. He was 87 years old.
Born on July 5, 1935, in Denton, Maryland, Jimmy was the son of the late John Wesley Corkell and Ada Louise Thomas Corkell.
Having lived all his life on the Eastern Shore, Mr. Corkell loved to farm and farmed all his life. He worked a few jobs while having farmed and those included Jimmy’s very first job of hauling milk in his GMC truck, dedicated service to Southern States, construction for the Naval Academy, and the American Legion Post 29.
Jimmy was a member to the Harrington Moose #534 and the American Legion Post 7 in Harrington, Delaware. He was a devoted member to both organizations and will be genuinely missed.
Mr. Corkell survived by his wife of 70 years, M. Catherine Willis Corkell; six children: Charles J. Corkell, Jr. (Christine) of Stevensville, MD; Roland E. Corkell (Christina) of Burrsville, DE; Rodney E. Corkell (Ethel) of Harrington, DE; Timothy L. Corkell (Tammy) of Burrsville, De; Mary Catherine Dyott (Buddy), Burrsville, DE; and Joyce Ellen Layton (Sam) of Burrsville, DE; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Corkell was preceded in death by six siblings: Johnny Boy Corkell, Tommy Corkell, Catherine Corkell, Juanita Lasher, Anna Hoggart, Ginger Hessey, and Wicky Corkell.
Services will be held at a later date.
