Carol Hornick Evans

     Carol Hornick Evans, a longtime resident of Williston, Maryland, passed away on August 21, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on September 23, 1944, the daughter of Dr. Emil Hornick, M.D., and Eunice McCleery Hornick, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Starke Matthew Evans. 
     Carol grew up in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, and graduated from Morris Catholic High School. She later attended Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland, where she earned a degree in Economics. 
     After college, Carol began her career with Maryland National Bank as a teller and, through her hard work and determination, advanced into a managerial position. After leaving the bank she wore many hats during her career. Carol worked alongside her husband as a legal assistant in his law office, was a real estate investor, landlord and property manager, and ultimately established Evans Title, LLC. 
     Carol and her husband made their home in Federalsburg, MD where they raised their family. In 1985, the family moved to Williston, Maryland, where Carol would make her home for the remainder of her life. 
     Carol was strong-willed and fiercely independent, qualities that defined her throughout her life. She knew what she wanted, valued her independence, and approached life with determination. Those who knew her well understood that Carol was very much her own person, and that strength remained an important part of who she was throughout her life. 
     She had a love for antiques and enjoyed working in her yard, playing bridge with friends, traveling, tennis, and golf. She was always up for an adventure. Her home and property in Williston were especially important to her, and she took great pride in them. 
     Above all, Carol loved her family and especially cherished being a grandmother. Her grandsons brought tremendous joy to her life, and being their grandmother was a role she treasured. 
     Carol is survived by her son, Starke Matthew Evans II, and his wife, Tabetha Walls Evans; her daughter, Dana Michelle Evans, and significant other Trevor Crowley; and her grandsons, Starke "Wilder" Evans and Preston "Shane" Evans. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Hornick Nichols; her brother, David Hornick, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Maggie Mae McCleery. Carol will be remembered for her independence, her determination, and the unmistakable strength of her personality. She built a life centered around her family and her home and remained true to herself throughout it all.
     For those who loved her most, however, her greatest legacy will be the family she leaves behind and the many years of memories they shared together.  She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
     A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, August 29th, at the St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church on First Street in Denton where friends may visit with the family one hour before the service.  This will be followed by a Celebration of Life at the Market Street Pub in Denton. The interment will be private.
