Carrie Lee Payne

Carrie Lee Payne of Preston, Maryland passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the UM Shore Medical Center in Easton, MD. She was 90 years old.

Born in Secretary, MD on December 1, 1932, Carrie was the daughter of the late Ernest Leroy Moore and Belva Olivia Wilkerson Moore. Carrie was a hard worker her whole life. She worked in the fields, farming in her younger years; then she worked at Old Salt Seafood for many years until they closed. Before retiring, she was a caregiver for many years in Cordova, MD.

Carrie enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and walking along the riverfront looking for sharks’ teeth and arrowheads. Her love for God and prayer got her through many hardships. Carrie was a very strong and caring person, who would give all she had to help someone. She touched many lives in her time and will be missed dearly.

Carrie is survived by her five children: Harry Payne (Jeanna), Mildred Brown (Jake), Cathie Vaughn, Faye Lednum, and Sheila Lednum (Donald); many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorothy Sard and Ella Mae Smith.

A graveside service for Carrie will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 1 PM in Hillcrest Cemetery located 3446 Laurel Grove Federalsburg, MD 21632.
