Daniel McCoy Freeman

Daniel M. Freeman of Denton, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 22, 2026. He was 81 years old.

Born in Skygusty, WV on February 9, 1945, Dan was the son of the late Curtis Bailey Freeman and Edith Luci Billips Freeman Ivory. He is also predeceased by his stepfather, Ted E. Ivory. He was a 1964 graduate of Greenwood High School in Greenwood, DE. Shortly after graduating, he joined the Delaware National Guard. Starting his work career with over a decade at Safeway, he later owned and operated Try Us Auto Body in Reliance, MD, always maintaining his love of working on cars. Before spending retirement years volunteering in the community, he worked part-time for the Benedictine School in Ridgely, MD.

Dan moved to Denton with his family in 1998, where he was a member of American Legion Post 29. He was also an active member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Cordova, MD. He enjoyed woodworking and being outside with his faithful dog, Astro. He had a love/hate relationship with the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Marie A. Freeman, of Denton; his treasured son, Ryan D. Freeman, of Bel Air, MD; and his two brothers, Walter E. “Dicky” Ivory and William G. “Billy” Ivory (Sherry), both of Greenwood. Always remaining near and dear to his heart, he is also survived by his daughter, Tina Abbott (Shane), and granddaughter, Tana Rafail, all of Bridgeville, DE. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Brianna Nicole Freeman, on July 28, 2000, and a sister, Iva Jean Freeman, on May 19, 2016.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 27th, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Cordova where friends may visit with the family one hour before the service. The interment will follow in the Denton Cemetery.
