The family of David R. Wood, Sr. of Denton are saddened to announce his passing on September 14, 2023 at Talbot Hospice. He was 77 years old.
Born in Starr, MD, on March 18, 1946, David was the son of the late J. Lawrence and Mary Knott Wood. He was one of six children.
After having graduated from Centreville High School, David became a self-employed truck driver. He later ended his career with Allen Foods with over 25 years of service.
Mr. Wood had a passion for crabbing, fishing and loved being on the water. His other hobbies included truck and tractor repair. David loved life and this was evident by his easy joking demeanor. Even though he enjoyed everything outdoors, nothing compared to his time spent with his wife Rosemary, 4 children and those wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
David is survived by his wife of 21 years, Rosemary; sons: David “Rodney” Wood, Jr. (Lisa) of Cordova, MD, Edward Wood (Jayme) of Alexandria, VA, Steve Mack (Kathy) of Davidsonville, MD and Michael Mack (Caroline) of Federalsburg, MD; grandchildren: J. Charles Wood, Evangelina Wood, Matthew Mack (Jessie), Melissa Mack (Chris), Eric (Callie), Erin, and Jacob Austin Mack; great-grandchildren: Leighanne, Trace, Conner, Mason, Blaine, and Brady; a sister Alice Uhler and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Lawrence Wood, Jr., Robert “Duke” Wood, Donald Wood, and Delores Fountian.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, September 22, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, located at 13209 Church Lane, Cordova, MD 21625. Burial in Centreville, MD at Chesterfield Cemetery at 406 South Liberty St., Centreville, MD 21617. There will be a viewing at St. Luke's Methodist Church. in Denton, MD on Thursday, September 21, from 6-8 PM.
