Douglas Gannon Mullins of Denton, MD, passed away peacefully at the Denton Nursing Home and Rehab on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. He was 81 years old.
Born in Jenkins, Kentucky on June 22, 1942, Doug was the son of the late James Calvin Mullins and Minnie Evelyn Boggs. He grew up in Pound, VA with his 10 siblings. At age 18, he joined the Navy and sailed on the USS Mountrail APA-213. He received his Good Conduct Medal in June 1962. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA until he was Honorably Discharged July 1965.
Doug courted and married the love of his life, Sandra Faye Norman on January 27, 1969. They lived in Alexandria, VA where they began their family. He worked for the National Pool Company, and they moved to the Eastern Shore for a pool project. With love for the Shore, they decided to not transfer with the company again, but move to Denton where they settled. His pool career continued with Eastern Shore Pools, Mullins Pools, the Aqua Pools as construction foreman until he retired.
Doug was Commander of Caroline American Legion Post 29 in 1993. He enjoyed the conversation and exchange of stories with the patrons and going to ship reunions. He loved making peanut butter fudge for friends and family. He loved football, his cats, his grand dogs, and adored his grandson and great grandson. He loved being Emmett’s “Poppy”.
Doug is survived by his wife, Sandra; three children: Louise Lewis, Douglas Mullins (Rebecca), and Wendy Mullins; grandson, David Buckle, Jr.; great grandson, Emmett Buckle; brother, Robert (Robbit) Mullins; sister, Phyllis Mullins, and sister-in-law, Rebecca Fields (Russell). In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
The family will host a memorial luncheon at the Caroline American Legion Post 29 located at 9238 Legion Road in Denton on September 30th from 12:30 until 3:00 PM.
