Dr. Gary L. Womer

Dr. Gary Lee Womer, Chestertown, MD, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Baltimore, MD to William A. Womer and Dorthy Smith Womer, Gary attended the University of MD on an athletic scholarship, graduating with a degree in Microbiology (1958).  Thereafter he graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School (1963). He volunteered and served 2 years as a Captain in the US Army as a dental surgeon, before moving to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1965 with his wife Barbara.   Gary had a long and successful career as a dentist, first with a practice in Greensboro and later in Denton, along with fellow dentist, Chuck Noren. Gary enjoyed providing pro bono dentistry to the teachers and staff at the Benedictine School in Ridgley.  Later in his career, he did an ambitious trek to South America where he provided critical dental care to patients living in the Amazon rainforest, sponsored by a Christian Mission.

Gary had a very dynamic personality and loved all things Eastern Shore, including hunting, fishing and crabbing.  He also enjoyed playing and watching sports (go Terps) and spending time with his children, grandchildren and extended family.

Gary is survived by his children, Darren, Barry, Todd and Gar; grandchildren, Scott, Andrew, Emily, Virginia, Niko, Samson and Bennett and great grandchild Mariah. Preceding Gary in death was his wife Barbara (2002).

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 10-11 AM at Moore Funeral Home, P.A. 12 S. 2nd St. Denton, MD. The funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Burial will be in Denton Cemetery.
