Dulcie Eleanor Wayman Flamer went home on Sunday, February 6, 2022. She was born November 7, 1920, in Hillsboro, MD to the late Norman and Miranda Wayman. She was a loving and caring daughter, sharing her childhood with her siblings, Henry, Marie, and Thelma. Dulcie’s 100th birthday celebration was very special to her. It meant a lot to her to have so many friends and family drive by to wish her a Happy Birthday! One highlight was her interview with the reporter from WBOC-Salisbury. It was later featured on their station.
At the tender age of three, Dulcie was diagnosed with infantile paralysis, polio. This was a crippling disease, which she overcame with determination and the faith of her elders. Time and time again, she shared the story of this illness and her recovery.
Dulcie attended elementary school in Thomastown/Hillsboro and graduated from Lockerman High School in Denton, MD.
Dulcie joined Allen AME Church at an early age and was a member of the Senior Choir. She enjoyed special days, like Homecoming, when family members came home for the services. Dulcie willingly supported the church and enjoyed assisting her sister, Thelma, with many church activities.
Dulcie met and married the love of her life, Victor Flamer. They shared many happy years together. From their union, one son was born, Don Rodney Wayman.
Dulcie was employed for many years at Eskay Poultry Factory, which later became Allen Foods.
Following in her mother’s footsteps, Dulcie acquired an interest in cooking. Her specialty was her famous Hot Rolls! Many people in the area would order their holiday and special day rolls from Aunt Dulcie. Her rolls were so-o-o good! Family and friends could hardly wait for them to get out of the oven! She shared her recipe with her great niece Dawn and her great nephew, Brian.
Her next secret weapon was her fried chicken. She had her own unique formula for preparing chicken – frying and steaming it so that it made your mouth water; and so tender, you didn’t need teeth to eat it!
Dulcie’s French Toast was a favorite. The family always wanted her to prepare it for breakfast. It was so good that it made you want to smack your lips! Try as we may, and regardless of how close we paid attention, we could never get it right!
Dulcie loved Bingo, as well as playing pinochle and spades. Dulcie enjoyed going for a ride in the car, especially during her later years. It didn’t matter where you were going, as long as she was in the passenger seat, and the ride ended at home in Queen Annes!
Dulcie was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Miranda Wayman; her husband, Victor Flamer; her son, Don Wayman; sisters, Marie Whittico and Thelma Wayman; brothers, Henry Wayman, Bishop Powns, and Bradford Powns.
Dulcie is survived by nieces Diane Baker (Bernard), Violece Brown (Rev. Robert), and Mary Hill; nephews Paul Wayman (Andrea), Henry Wayman (Michele), and Tyrone Wayman; sister-in-law, Pauline Wyatt; great nieces Maria Daniels, Dawn Wayman, and Latonya Wright; great nephews Raymond Potter (Ruth), Brian Wayman (Annica), Henry Branch (Yolanda), a host of great-great nieces and nephews; special friends Rose & Robert Tingle, Thomas Guy, and Peggy Wilson. She greatly appreciated visits and assistance from Tresicia Truxon and Jameyra Finney.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 12th in the Denton Church of the Nazarene located 10660 Greensboro Rd, Denton, MD 21629 at 12 noon; friends may visit with the family there from 10:30 to 12 noon. The interment in Sandtown Cemetery Hillsboro will follow.
