Evelyn Reichlin Obituary

Evelyn L. Reichlin of Denton, MD, passed away at her home in Denton, MD on her birthday, Sunday, October 6, 2024, with her loving family by her side. She was 91 years old.

Born on October 6, 1933, in New Windsor, MD, Mrs. Reichlin was the daughter of Sterling E. Blacksten and Bessie Mae Schelle Blacksten. She grew up on her parent’s dairy farm (adjacent to Carroll Lutheran Village) and was a 1951 graduate of the New Windsor High School. She was a member of the school’s basketball team. She was also a member of the New Windsor Fire Company Auxiliary and marched in parades in the band front for the fire company’s band. She loved to roller skate with her friends, and she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She had a lovely soprano voice and always sang in her church choir.

One of her first jobs was as kitchen help and waitress at Baugher’s Restaurant near Western Maryland Collage in Westminster. Later she worked in the office of Quality Cleaners. She met her husband Allen on the farm when he delivered a new Allis Chalmers tractor to her father. She made Allen the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich he ever tasted and they have been inseparable ever since!

Allen and Evelyn were married at the Union Bridge United Methodist Church in 1957 and lived in Westminster for 13 years where they were part owners with Allen’s brother Karl of Reichlin’s Inc., an Allis Chalmers and New Holland farm equipment dealership, and later merged with a cousin owning Widerman Reichlin, Inc. bringing Massey Ferguson into the dealership.

In 1969, she and her family moved to Pealiquor Rd., Denton, MD where she worked as a Teacher's Aid in Denton Elementary, an administrator for the Peoples Bank of Maryland, Ziegler Insurance, and Fearins Insurance, retiring in 1998. Evelyn and Allen loved to ballroom dance and were members of two dance clubs and they also bowled in the Senior League at the Easton bowling alley.

Evelyn Reichlin is survived by her husband of 67 years, R. Allen Reichlin of Denton; a son, Mark Reichlin and his wife Patti of Middletown, DE; two grandchildren, Brandon Reichlin and his wife Julie, and Nathaniel Reichlin and his wife Jessica; five great grandchildren: Jamey, Cameron, Autumn, Noah, and Colton, all of Middletown, DE; a brother, Dick Blacksten and his wife Patsy of Denton; and a sister, Esther Potteiger and her husband Larry of Harrisburg, PA. She was predeceased by a beloved son, Jeffrey K. Reichlin on December 18, 1993; and her sister Shirley Fowler.
