Francis M. “Skip” Flater, II of Denton, MD, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 19, 2025, with his loving family at his side. He was 87 years old.
Born in Baltimore, MD, Mr. Flater was the son of the late Francis Harry Flater and Marie Elizabeth Barnhart Flater. He was a 1956 graduate of Westminster, MD High School.
Mr. Flater was a Senior Manufacturing Engineer for Black and Decker, retiring in 2003 after 47 years of service with the company. He was active in the Denton Lions Club having transferred his membership from the Roaring Run Lions Club in Finksburg, MD. He was the Lions District Treasurer and was a Melvin Jones Fellow. Interested in boating, camping, and waterfowl, he was an active volunteer for the annual Waterfowl Festival in Easton, MD. He was a great husband, father, and loving grandfather. He also was a devoted pet owner with his dogs Katy and Casey and missing his deceased Meg and Abby.
Mr. Flater is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Beverly Jean Flater of Denton; two sons, Lewis E. Flater of Hanover, PA and Brian T. Harrison (Dawn) of Denton; a daughter, Lisa A. Irons (Al) of Denton; a sister, Joanne Townsend of Glen Rock, PA; five grandchildren: Alfred Irons IV, Skyler Irons, Joshua Middleton, Matthew Irons, and R.J. Harrison; and two great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at the Denton Church of the Nazarene in Denton at 12 Noon on Monday, January 27th, where friends may visit with the family from 11 to 12 before the service. The interment will follow in the Denton Cemetery.
