Grace Motte Clopper, 82, of Denton, MD passed away on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025. She was born on June 4th, 1942, in Walhalla, SC to the late Marvin Motte and Mary Gibson Motte. Grace graduated from Summerville High School later married the love of her life, Howard David Clopper. They spent 45 plus years together until his passing. She had many enjoyments in life including baking, crafting, listening to music, especially Elvis, cooking, and most of all, spending time with her beloved family and lifelong friends. Her family was her pride and joy which provided her with purpose in life. Grace had a heart of gold and always knew how to help someone in need. She was known to spoil her family and had a sweet tooth of her own. Grace was raised at Summerville Baptist Church before becoming a faithful member of The Thawley UMC Chapel in Denton, MD and also Boone Hill UMC in Summerville. Grace worked as a preschool teacher for St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and also at The Caroline Center in Denton, MD. She was a much beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to a gathering on Saturday, May 17th, 2025, from 4pm to 6pm at James A Dyal Funeral Home, 303 South Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 23rd, 2025 beginning at 12pm at Moore Funeral Home in Denton, MD. A visitation will be held prior from 11am to 12pm.
She is survived by her loving children: Brenda Clopper Lewis (John) and Chris Clopper (Catharine); her granddaughter, Shelby Lewis; her brother, Marshall “Buddy” Motte (Arlene); and her brother-in-law, Gene Wiley; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Patricia Wiley, Nancy Nettles (Tommie), and Gladys Jackson (Chester).
