H. Bernard “Bernie” Wells, Jr. of Denton, MD, passed away at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD after a hard-fought battle with cancer on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. He was 53 years old.
Born in Washington, D.C, Bernie was the son of Horace Bernard Wells, Sr. of Bowie, MD and Lindsay Johnston Wegert (Jim) of Shenandoah, VA. He was a 1989 graduate of Bowie High School.
Bernie was a Level 3 Building Engineer. He created and ran Celebrate Recovery meetings (a Christian 12-step program) at Greater Impact Church on Mondays. He was a terrific husband, father, and Pop-Pop. He was a man whose family was his life, but he always tried to help those who needed a helping hand. He had an enthusiastic sense of humor, a deep appreciation for all animals and pets, and loved working on and restoring cars. He was a member of Greater Impact Church in Greensboro.
Bernie is survived by his wife, a high school sweetheart he married April 12, 1991, Carol L. Wells of Denton; three daughters: Crystal Wells of Denton, Tiffany Wells of Ridgely, MD, and Cheyenne Wells of Denton; four grandchildren: Carson, Norah, Avery, and Landon; his father, Horace Bernard Wells, Sr. of Bowie; a sister, Trina Wells of Bowie; a nephew, Justin Wells; and several other nieces and their families. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Walt and Marion Johnston, and his paternal grandparents, Horace P., and Rita Wells.
A Celebration of Bernie’s Life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 3rd, at the Greater Impact Church in Greensboro, MD where friends can visit with the family from 10 until 11 before the service. The burial will be private.
