Howard J. Muir of Denton, MD, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, MD. He was 68 years old.
Born in Schweinfurt, Germany on May 1, 1957, Howard was the son of Rona (Roni) L. Muir of Denton and the late Harry Nice Muir, Sr., and his late birth mother, Lizzy Edith Emilie Oncken. He was a 1976 graduate of North Caroline High School.
Howard came to the United States in 1960 and became a naturalized citizen in 2022. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Before becoming a cross-country truck driver. Howard lived in Idaho and drove 18 wheelers for 20 years visiting all 48 of the continental states and Canada before retiring and moving back home to Maryland and working as a driver for Life Star Ambulance out of Salisbury, MD. He was an avid motorcyclist and was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Denton. He also attended Christ Episcopal Church in Denton.
In addition to his mother, Howard is survived by his wife, Gayle M. Muir of Denton who he married May 20, 2017; his daughter, Monica L. Jones (Jake) of Lusby, MD; a brother, Harry Nice Muir, Jr. (Cathie) of The Villages, FL; a sister, Marilyn Muir Evey (Scott) of Preston, MD; three grandchildren: Caleb William Hall, Bella Marie Jones, and Connor Matthew Jones; two nieces , Amanda Joy Muir, and Kathryn Muir Coons; two nephews: Ryan Carr Muir and Alex King Muir; three dogs: Scruffy, Chloe, and Furby; and two cats, Stella and Motor.
A funeral service will be held at 11:45 am on Monday, May 11th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A. located at 12 South Second Street in Denton where friends may call from 11 until 11:45 before the service. The interment will be in the MD Eastern Shore Veteran’s Cemetery in Hurlock, MD.
