Jewell Crouch

     L. Jewell Ramsey Crouch of Easton, MD, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton. She was 92 years old.

     Born in Lynchburg, VA on April 17, 1931, Mrs. Crouch was the daughter of the late Troy Edward Ramsey and Maggie Sue Daniel Ramsey. Her husband, Malcolm Lee Crouch, died June 1, 1964. Mrs. Crouch graduated in 1948 from Caroline High School. She had moved to Virginia and moved back to Denton, MD in 1964.

     She was a Dietary Supervisor at the Wesleyan Center in Denton and William Hill Manor in Easton as well as for the Dorchester County Head Start. She also worked, for a time, as a prep cook for Graham Kerr's television show The Galloping Gourmet. She retired and moved to Easton in 1994 where, at the time of her passing, she was the longest standing current resident of her retirement community. Mrs. Crouch is survived by one son, Gary L. Crouch (Madeline) of Rockvale, CO; and seven grandchildren: Michael Crouch, Malcolm Crouch (Katie) of New Castle, DE, Markus Crouch (Sally Simpson) of New Castle, DE, Maggie Aurit (Steve) of Janesville, WI, Matthew Crouch (Ashley) of Smyrna, DE, Nicole Crouch (Jess Delaney) of Scaggsville, MD, and Mallorie McCune (Crouch) of Colorado Springs, CO.

     In addition to her husband, Mrs. Crouch was preceded in death by two sons: Vincent M. Crouch on August 5, 1979, and Mark A. Crouch on December 5, 2016; and three brothers: Leroy C. Ramsey, M. Reginald Ramsey, and Ted G. Ramsey.

     She had a vast network of friends whom she often enjoyed traveling with in the earlier part of her retirement and frequently conversing with in the later part. She will be lovingly remembered for her vast wealth of culinary knowledge, love of finding a great deal and most of all, the great pride she took in all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

     There will be a 2 PM graveside service on Thursday, May 4th, at the Fort Hill Memorial Park located at 5196 Ft. Ave. in Lynchburg, VA 24502.

     In lieu of flowers, Jewell had asked for memorial donations to be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (http://stjude.org/donate). The arrangements are by Moore Funeral Home, P.A. in Denton, MD.
