John Rupert Covington passed peacefully from his life on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the Holly Center in Salisbury, MD where he has been a resident since its opening in 1975. He was 77 years old.
Born in Easton, MD on November 17, 1943, Johnny was the son of the late Calvin C. Covington and Doris (McClintock) Covington. He was a handsome boy with big blue eyes, dark brown hair, and lots of potential. However, a childhood bout with the Measles robbed him of that potential. He became a resident of Holly Center on or shortly after its opening, and the staff there made it home for him.
Johnny is survived by two sisters: Barbara C. Brown of Milford, DE and Karin J. Coward of Easton; three nephews: Alex C. Brown, Victor Coward, III, and Scott Jordan; two nieces, Paula Larrimore and Yvonne Pickle; four great nieces: Hollie Larrimore, Cameron Larrimore, Julianna Coward, and Brianna Pickle; and two great nephews, Brian Brooks and Will Coward. He is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lynn Jordan of Ridgely, MD, and a nephew, Wayne R. Brown, Jr..
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 22nd, in the Chesterfield Cemetery in Centreville, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests for friends to send memorial donations in Johnny’s memory to the Holly Center, 926 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804.
