John Andrew Jones

John Andrew Jones went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 17, 2026.

Born on March 5, 1940, in North Carolina, John was raised in Craven County, where he attended Farm Life High School. On April 22, 1967, he married the love of his life, Linda Moon. Together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and service while raising three children.

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1970. His military service remained one of the greatest sources of pride throughout his life and reflected the discipline, dedication, and integrity that would continue to define the man he became.

Following his military service, John worked in the construction industry, contributing to several significant projects, including construction of the second span of the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge, commonly known as the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. He later enjoyed a distinguished career with the United States Department of State, retiring in 1996. Never one to stop learning, John earned a degree in Information Technology and Networking from Delaware Technical Community College.

Service to others remained a lifelong calling. John was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), a proud member of the National Rifle Association, and the Tin Can Sailors Association. He volunteered at the Delaware Veterans Home, The Home of the Brave, continuing to support fellow veterans who had served our nation. Closer to home, he served with the United Communities Volunteer Fire Department in Queen Anne's County and proudly graduated as a member of the first Emergency Medical Technician class on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

While John's accomplishments were many, his greatest joy was found in the simple blessings of life. He loved spending time with his family, worshipping at his church, traveling, and returning whenever possible to his beloved home state of North Carolina. He was an avid fan of Dale Earnhardt and the iconic No. 3 car, enjoyed classic automobiles, and was happiest with a cane pole in his hand, casting a fishing line into the water. His faithful dogs, Molly and Jenny, also held a special place in his heart.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Blonnie Jones and Irene Davis; his brother, Roy Jones (Sandy); and his beloved grandson, Brice Boone.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Jones; his children: Mike Jones (Kelli), Matt Jones, and Debra Hopkins (Randy); his siblings: Judy Hill (Howard), Ray Jones, Kay Lewis, and Nina Wells (Robert Earl); his grandchildren: Steven Jones (Kim), Krista Brockson (Brian Sr.), Madison Jones, Aiden Jones, Amber Jones, Bradley Boone (Logan), Brendon Boone (Sara), and Bristol Hopkins; his treasured great-grandchildren: Chase, Savanna, Daisy, John-Waylon, Jaymeson, Alayna, Brian Jr., Kali-Jo, and Brooks; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom will cherish his memory.

John will be remembered as a man of unwavering faith, strong convictions, and steadfast devotion to his family. He believed in hard work, personal responsibility, serving others, and always doing what was right. He set high standards, led by example, and expected the best from those around him—not because he demanded perfection, but because he believed in the value of character, integrity, and commitment. Beneath his strong exterior was a generous heart, deep loyalty, and a love for his family that never wavered. His example will continue to guide those who knew and loved him, and his legacy of faith, service, and family will live on for generations to come.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate John's life at Moore Funeral Home, 12 South Second Street, Denton, Maryland 21629. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. An additional visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Interment with military honors will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, 6827 East New Market Elwood Road, Hurlock, Maryland 21643.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Calvary Baptist Church or to the Dementia Society of America in John's memory.
