John Lee "Jack" Gibson Obituary

     John Lee Gibson “Jack” of Queen Anne, MD, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2025, at his home after a brief illness. He was 94 years old.

     Born in Easton, MD, Mr. Gibson was the son of the late Jacob Austin Gibson and Mary Margaret DeFord Gibson. His wife of 57 years, Rachel J. Gibson, passed away on September 25, 2007.

     A 1949 graduate of the Tri-County High School in Queen Anne, Mr. Gibson owned and operated Gibson’s Package Store in Queen Anne for twenty years, becoming well known for his submarine sandwiches. He then drove a school bus for Queen Anne’s County Board of Education Transportation Department before retiring as a bus driver for Upper Shore Aging in 2009.

     A life-long active resident of the Queen Anne community, Mr. Gibson was a Life Member of the Queen Anne-Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Co. where he received a 75-year service award. He was a member of the Hillsboro-Queen Anne United Methodist Church, a member of the Methodist Men, and had been a member of the Retreads Motorcycle Club. He had also served in the 29th Division MD National Guard for nine years where he was a Sergeant.

     Mr. Gibson is survived by a daughter, Gayle G. Carrick (Wayne) of Centreville, MD; two sons, Lee S. Gibson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Donald J. Gibson (Georgiann) of Queenstown, MD; a granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Wise (Kyle) of Baltimore and three great grandchildren: Landon, Jack, and Beckham; one brother, Malcolm G. “Mack” Gibson (Doris) of Easton; a sister, Mary Lou Winstead of Ridgely, MD, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a sister, C. Faye Connolly, and a brother, Jacob A. “Sonny” Gibson.

     A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 10th, at the Hillsboro-Queen Anne United Methodist Church on Main Street in Hillsboro where friends may visit with the family from 10 until 11 before the service. The interment is private.
