Kenneth Fishell Obituary

Surrounded by family, Kenneth Harrison Fishell, Jr. (Kenny) of Federalsburg passed peacefully on April 5, 2025 at the age of 65. Many will remember Kenny for his ability to find humor in almost every situation. He easily made those around him laugh, even during his last few days.

Kenny was a grain and poultry farmer, following in the footsteps of his father, Kenneth Harrison Fishell, Sr., who preceded him in death. He was also previously employed by Milford Fertilizer and Warwick Manor Behavioral Health. Kenny took pride in helping others with addiction. He recently celebrated thirty years of sobriety—a milestone made possible through support of his beloved aunt, Phyliss Johnson, and devoted sponsors, Henry Wells and Tom Wheatley, all of whom preceded him in death. It was in sobriety that Kenny found his voice and was frequently invited to speak at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and special celebrations. He was able to share his story of sobriety with honesty, warmth, and humor, offering hope and encouragement to those seeking recovery.

Kenny was a member of the Idlewild Ruritan Club, Marshyhope Rod and Gun Club, and Alcoholics Anonymous. He graduated from Colonel Richardson High School, Class of 1977.

Kenny is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of almost 43 years, Sabrina (Sullivan) Fishell, their son Kenneth Harrison Fishell, III (Kayla), and three grandchildren: Olivia, Ryleigh, and Branch Fishell. Living nearby meant his grandchildren were a joyful, near-constant presence—sharing playtime, sleepovers, and his candy stash. On the day of his grandson Branch’s birth, Kenny expressed his delight in achieving two goals on the same day: a grandson and field irrigation.

He is also survived by his mother, Barbara Lowe Fishell; brother Kevin (Eve) Fishell and sister Karen Fishell Newcomb (Jimmy); brother-in-law Steve Sullivan and sisters-in-laws Bonnie (Ed) Cullen and TC Daerda; along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to previously mentioned family members, he was also preceded in death by grandparents Russell and Mary Virginia Fishell; Ruth Simpson Lowe Clark and in-laws Ralph and Mary Sullivan.

Kenny took great pride and joy in teaching his son and nephews (Spencer Sullivan and Davis Newcomb) to hunt. Those hunts became cherished times of bonding, filled with laughter and jokes exchanged in the deer stand. He was looking forward to buying Branch his first shotgun this summer.

At Kenny’s request, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chestnut Grove Community Association ℅ Peggy Culhane; 5170 Long Swamp Road Federalsburg MD 21632
