Leland T. Short, Jr. (L.T.) of Denton, MD, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020, at the Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, MD. He was 84 years old.
Born in Easton, MD on July 16, 1936, Mr. Short was the son of the late Leland T. Short, Sr. and Ivy Dale Townsend Short. He is also predeceased by his stepmother, Martha Ellen Beck Short.
Mr. Short was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. He graduated in 1964 from the Salisbury State Teacher’s College in Salisbury, MD. He taught school in Montgomery County, MD for three years. He returned to Caroline County and became a Cartographer in the MD Assessment Office, retiring in 1991. An accomplished wildlife photographer, he travelled widely in pursuit of his hobby. He was very active in regional birdwatching, was a skillful cook, and was a practiced and crackerjack performer with a bullwhip.
Mr. Short is survived by several cousins. In addition to his parents and stepmother, he was predeceased by a sister, Ivy Dale Short in 1977.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 o’clock on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 in the Denton Cemetery located in West Denton.
