M. Angela Callaghan Obituary

     Mary Angela Callaghan of Easton, MD passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Arcadia Two Assisted Living Facility in Denton, MD. She was 86 years old. Mrs. Callaghan was born in 1939, in Athy, County Kildare, Ireland and was the daughter of the late John Christopher Howard and Mary Dowling Howard. She immigrated from Swinton, England to the United States, and settled in Bowie, MD in 1980 with her husband, Arthur Terence Callaghan, who passed away in 2022.

     During her life in America, Mrs. Callaghan worked as an assistant teacher in childcare at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. She also was a teacher at Tom Thumb Nursery School in Bowie, MD. During her time in England, she worked as a seamstress and also as a secretary for Muldoon’s Opticians.

     For the past 18 years, Mrs. Callaghan had resided in Hyde Park in Easton, MD. She maintained a strong interest in gardening, reading, crafts, animals, and birds, especially owls. Most of all, she enjoyed a good chat, a good laugh, and a good cup of coffee with extra cream and extra sugar. Mrs. Callaghan is survived by a daughter, Gayna Callaghan Bentley (Mark Williams) of Whitworth, Lancashire, England; two sons, Terry Callaghan, of Chester, MD and Paul Callaghan (Crystal) of Denton, MD and four grandchildren: Terence Connor Callaghan (Lucy) of Clover, SC, Arthur William Callaghan of Chester, MD, Michael Ryan Callaghan of Chester, MD, and Caroline Sophie Callaghan of Denton, MD. Mrs. Callaghan is also survived by a sister, Jocelyn Dowling Frier (Geoff) of Salford, England, a sister-in-law, Jean Howard of Salford, England, a brother-in-law, Stan Marsden of Rhyl, North Wales, and many nieces and nephews in England and Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents (John and Mary Howard), three brothers (Michael, Liam, and James Howard), and four sisters (Ethna Burgess, Veronica Varley, Monica Marsden, and Majella Boykin).

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, July 29th, at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church at 106 S. First Street in Denton, MD. Prior to the church service, friends may visit with family at 11:30 at Moore Funeral Home, P.A. located at 12 South Second Street in Denton, MD. The interment will be private.
