Margaret VanDyke Campbell, of Ocean Pines, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025. She was 88 years old.
Born in Easton, Maryland, and known as Peggy, she was the daughter of the late Blanche C. VanDyke and Paul S. VanDyke. Peggy grew up in Denton, Maryland graduating from Caroline High School in 1955.
Throughout her early years, she developed a love of music and pursued her passion by studying piano and performing in many concert recitals. This led to her music studies at Western Maryland College (McDaniel) where she met her future husband, Walter H. Campbell. Later in life, she served as the organist and choir director at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in St. Michaels, MD. Prior to that, she worked for many years as a librarian and educator for the Harford County, Maryland school system.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Walter H. Campbell, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Sarah Lizbinski of Leonardtown, MD, daughter Susan (Sue) Campbell Hill and husband B. Scott Hill, of Roanoke, VA; son William (Bill) Campbell and wife Jennifer W. Campbell and granddaughters Emily Van Allen and husband August Van Allen and Gillian Campbell of Fort Worth, TX as well as nephew Michael Lizbinski and wife Laura of Leonardtown, MD.
Funeral services for Peggy were private. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to honor her may make donations to The Community Church at Ocean Pines, 11227 Racetrack Road, Berlin, Maryland 21811.
