Martha Blackistone Godfrey of Denton, MD, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 60 years old.
Born at the Patuxtent River Naval Base in St. Mary’s County, MD on March 6, 1959, Mrs. Godfrey was the daughter of Allen Sharkey Pate of Mobile, AL and the late Martha Jane Orme Pearsall and her late husband, N. Joseph Pearsall, III. She was a 1977 graduate of North Caroline High School. Mrs. Godfrey had been a Librarian for the Queen Anne County School System and had retired as the Human Resources Secretary from the Caroline County Board of Education in August 2019 after a combined service of 29 years. She was a member of the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Denton and the Choptank River Yacht Club.
In addition to her father, Mrs. Godfrey is survived by her husband, Thomas A. Godfrey of Denton; a daughter, M. Emily Ebling (J.R.) of Denton, MD; a son, Thomas Colton (Katie) of Goldsboro, MD; two sisters, Laura Willis of Daphne, AL and Beth McKern of Birmingham, AL; a brother, Allen (Sam) Sharkey Pate, Jr. (Dana) of Denton; one grandson, Bayne Ebling of Denton; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, February 15th, at the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church located at 100 S. Fifth Ave. in Denton where friends may visit with the family from 12 until 1 before the service. The interment will be private.
