Maureen Theresa Duggan-Cassidy, 71, passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2024, while surrounded by loved ones. Prior to her death, Maureen had battled various forms of cancer for several years.
Maureen was born to Irish immigrants, Michael and Joan Duggan, in the city of Baltimore, Maryland on January 4, 1953. As the youngest of five (with a ten-year gap between her and her next oldest sibling), she was a delight to her family. At a young age, Maureen began a life-long quest to befriend and pet every animal, both wild and domestic, that she encountered, which led to many trips to the hospital for rabies booster shots.
After graduating from Seton Keough High School in Baltimore and attending college at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), Maureen left her rebellious streak behind to lovingly raise her own family. During this time, Maureen rekindled her Catholic faith and became an integral part of Saint Benedict/Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church in Denton, Maryland. For the majority of her adult life, Maureen worked as a medical transcriptionist, eventually owning and operating her own successful transcription business.
In her later years, Maureen served as the Saint Benedict/Saint Elizabeth Coordinator of Religious Education from 2015-2024. In that role, she oversaw religious instruction for children and adults of all ages. Prior to her employment at the parish, she was a leader in the parish’s Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults program through which she accompanied and taught those seeking to learn more about the Catholic faith. She had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and prayed the rosary daily as well as taking part in the Charismatic and Intercessory Prayer Groups. She was also a member of the Blessed Virgin Mother Ladies’ Sodality. She had a beautiful voice and served as a cantor and a member of the parish choir. She also served on the Parish Council and Liturgy Committee and volunteered at many parish events. Did we mention that Maureen had a powerful, unwavering devotion to God and her Catholic Parish community?
Perhaps the only thing that matched Maureen's faith was her constant, endless love for her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mark Cassidy; her parents; her sister Sheila Rosensteel; and her brother Thomas Duggan. She is survived by her son, Colin; daughter-in-law Alecia; grandchildren Emerson and Theodore; her sister Joan Callens; and her brother Michael Duggan. Maureen is also survived by many nieces; nephews; godchildren; and countless others who considered "Auntie Mo"/ "Ammo"/ “MoMo" to be a beloved confidant, mentor, and friend.
Funeral services for Maureen will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Saint Benedict Catholic church, located at 408 Central Avenue, Ridgely, MD 21660. A rosary will be said at 9:45 AM, followed by visitation for family and friends at 10:00 AM and funeral mass at 11:00 AM. A graveside service and luncheon will be held after mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Benedict/St. Elizabeth Parish, PO Box 459, Ridgely, MD 21660.
