Melissa Lynn Brown of Greensboro, MD, passed away at the Anchorage Healthcare in Salisbury, MD on Saturday, June 27, 2026. She was 54 years old.
Born in Seaford, DE on May 4, 1972, Melissa was the daughter of Pamela Jones Leadbeter of Greensboro and the late Gary Schlegel. She was a 1990 graduate of North Caroline High School near Ridgely, MD.
Melissa was a self-employed beautician in Denton for many years where she operated her business in the Curl Up and Dye beauty shop where she made everyone feel special and beautiful! That was her calling and she was amazing at it!
She was an avid fan of NFL football, especially the Philadelphia Eagles. She also loved the beach and riding motorcycles with her beloved fiancé, Jamie Simmons of Greensboro. Most of all, she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and deeply loved her family and friends.
In addition to her mother, Pam Leadbeter and her fiancé, Jamie Simmons, Melissa is survived by two daughters, Bailey Brown Canterbury (Ian) of Greensboro, and Ashley Fox of Greensboro; one brother, Gary Jeff Schlegel (Jennifer) of Smyrna, DE; seven grandchildren: Makenzie O’Connell, Devyn O’Connell, Jayce Depoy, Ryker Remmel, Addison Simmons, L.J. Simmons, and Hailee Simmons; a niece, Caylie Schlegel; and two nephews, Jeffrey Schlegel and Tyler Schlegel. She is also survived by many aunts and uncles and friends who loved her deeply.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2PM on Sunday, July 5th, at the Choptank River Yacht Club in Denton.
