Mildred “Chips” Nagel Irwin of Seaford, DE, formerly of Denton, MD, passed away at the Manor House in Seaford on Sunday, December 20, 2020. She was 98 years old.
Born at home in American Corner in Caroline County, MD on February 3, 1922, Mrs. Irwin was the daughter of the late Rudolph Adolph Nagel and Anna Barbara Seiter Nagel. Her husband, C. Wilson Irwin, died June 20, 1986.
Until Mrs. Irwin moved to Seaford in 2007, she had lived in Caroline County all of her life. She graduated from the Federalsburg, MD High School and was the Payroll Clerk in the Caroline County Finance Office, retiring in 1988. Active in community affairs, she served on the Caroline Hospice Foundation Board, the Adult Day Care Board at the Denton Wesleyan Center, and the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board. She was also past president of the Post 5118 E. E. Streets Memorial Post VFW Auxiliary in Easton, MD and was a member of the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Denton. She had a passion for bowling, golf and spoiling her grandchildren.
Mrs. Irwin is survived by her daughter, Debi I. Libby (David) of Lewes, DE; three grandchildren: Dana Huey (Nicole) of Felton, DE, Drew Libby (Kate) of Milton, DE, and Darian Ternosky (Adam) also of Milton; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 24th, in the Denton Cemetery, 24865 Meeting House Road in Denton.
