Nancy Schisler Obituary

Nancy Lee Schisler was taken to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Born on November 13, 1946, at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, Nancy was the much-loved child of Margaret Oralee and Thomas Farrell. She grew up in Baltimore and was part of the first graduating class of Mercy High School in 1964. She married her high school sweetheart, David Gene Schisler, in 1965 at St. Ursula’s Catholic Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Nancy and David were married for over 50 years, and their unwavering love was a great source of inspiration for all their family and friends.

Nancy and David raised three children who were their pride and joy. Together, they coached and attended little league games, hunted all manner of bird and beast, and spent a great deal of time crabbing in the Bay Hundred creeks. Nancy was the Commissioner of the Reisterstown Little League in the 1970s and coached cheerleading at St. Michaels High School in the 1980s. Many of her cheerleaders thought of Nancy as their second mother.

For almost thirty years, Nancy owned and operated Nancy’s Nostalgia in St. Michaels, Maryland. She loved dealing in antiques and especially loved spending her Thursday nights at A. Curtis Andrew Auction house in American Corner. The Andrew family, auctioneers, and attendees became part of Nancy’s extended family, and she looked forward to seeing them each week over the thirty plus years she was in the business and for many years thereafter, always happy to find a new treasure.

Nancy loved to travel, and she and David traveled extensively. Some of their favorite excursions were to New Zealand, Australia, and their last cruise to Alaska with their siblings and in-laws. They often visited their grandsons, Tyras and Brock, both Coast Guard officers. Nancy’s favorite trip was to Brazil with her daughter, Christina, her son, Ken, and Ken’s wife, Amy. Nancy never said no to a cruise, and she enjoyed taking friends, her daughter, daughter-in-law, sisters-in-law, and granddaughters with her. In her retirement, bus trips with the Talbot County Senior Center were always a priority.

A grandmother to six and known as “Grancy” to many, Nancy enjoyed attending her grandsons’ baseball games in Chincoteague, Virginia, and her granddaughters’ field hockey, tennis, and basketball games at Saints Peter and Paul School. She even continued attending basketball and softball games until all who knew her as Grancy had graduated. She was a huge baseball fan and loved watching and attending games at all levels, especially the Baltimore Orioles and the St. Michaels Saints. She rarely missed a high school game and attended as many games at Camden Yards as possible.

In the baseball off-season, she found lots of time to visit the casinos in Harrington and Dover as a “professional” Blackjack player. All the card dealers knew her affectionately by name. Nancy played cards right up until her final days, teaching the nurses at Johns Hopkins Hospital the same game she taught her grandchildren.

Most of all, Nancy cherished her time with friends and family. She was always there for every family gathering, especially when crabs were on the table. She enjoyed a well-made margarita and any flavor of Smith Island Cake made by daughter-in-law, Sandi. Nancy was rarely seen without a smile, Diet Pepsi, and freshly manicured nails.

Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David; parents, Oralee and Thomas Farrell; stepfather, Stephen Parkhurst; brothers-in-law, George Henderson and John Schisler; sister-in-law, Kathleen McConnell; and in-laws, William and Regina Schisler.

She is survived by her children, Thomas Gene Schisler (Sandra Kolakowski), Kenneth David Schisler (Amy MacWilliams), and Christina Lynn Carlson (Timothy Carlson); grandchildren, Tyras Gehrig Schisler (Brittany Phillips), Rebecca Kathleen Schisler-Adams (Anthony Adams), Katie Ann Schisler, Brock Elwood Schisler, Kirby Brooks Schisler, and Morgan Christina Schisler; step-grandchildren, Jaron Carlson (Alex Swartz) and Charlie Carlson (Madde Linehan); and great-grandchildren, Cooper, Baker, and Rosie Schisler, and Evelyn Adams.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, from 4:00-7:00pm with a prayer service at 6:00pm at Moore Funeral Home in Denton, Maryland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 20, at 11:00am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cordova, Maryland.
