Phyllis E. Garey of Denton, MD, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at the Compass Regional Hospice Barnett Center in Centreville, MD. She was 90 years old.
Born in Marcus Hook, PA, Mrs. Garey was the daughter of the late Paul Beauchamp and Edith Fountain Beauchamp. Her husband, Charles Floyd Garey, died August 5, 2003.
A graduate of Caroline High School in Denton, Mrs. Garey was the Assistant Supervisor of Assessments in the MD State Tax Assessment Office in Caroline County, retiring after 45 years. A wonderful mother and grandmother, Mrs. Garey loved cross word puzzles as well as cardinals, hummingbirds, and all of nature.
Three daughters survive Mrs. Garey: Wanda G. Lewis of Denton, Patsy G. Payne of Denton, and Charlotte A. Monath (Tony) of Federalsburg; a stepdaughter, Mildred Jane Chance of Federalsburg; 8 grandchildren: Heather Yoc Santos (Fernando), Summer Lewis (Sergio), Greg Thomas (Julie), Jake Thomas, Ginny Monath (George), Gary Monath (Shawne), Jackie Chance (Linda), and Kim Larimore; and numerous great and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Jody Lewis, on July 4, 1974.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, January 17, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A. located at 12 S. Second Street in Denton where friends may call from 12 until 1 before the service. The interment will be in the Denton Cemetery.
