Ray Collins Obituary

Ray Elmer Collins of Cordova, Maryland passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at his home. He was 82 years old.

Born on February 28, 1941, at Fifer’s Hospital in Ridgely, MD, he was the son of the late George Elmer Collins and Margaret Gertrude Dawson Collins. He attended school at Cordova Elementary and graduated from Easton High School in 1959. Ray served in the Maryland Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969. He made his home in Cordova on the family home farm.

Later, he worked for Waverly Press, and then for Cadmus Journal Services in Easton, retiring from there in 2000 after 32 years of faithful service.

Ray loved his family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Besides working on building his own home, he helped build homes for two of his sisters, and helped with the addition on his brother’s home. Ray also worked with his friend, Audrey Callahan at her produce stand for many years. He and his daughter enjoyed spending time together and shared a very special bond. He especially enjoyed his huge garden and was faithful to share fresh produce with family and friends. The time dedicated to his great-nephews: Ryan and Jackson, was by far the highlight of his days.

Mr. Collins is survived by his daughter, Penny Fontana (Edward) of Easton; two sisters: Charlotte Blades of Henderson and Rev. Joan C. Wolff (H. Rodman) of Easton; and many wonderful, loving nieces, nephews, and family members. In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his brother, Edward F. “Eddie” Collins; and two sisters: Elmira Elizabeth Collins and Linda Ann Faulkner.

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, from 5-7PM at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A. 12 S. 2nd St. Denton, MD. The funeral will be Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 11AM from Moore Funeral Home. The burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park 11365 Ocean Gateway, Easton, MD 21601.
