Rev. Lucilla Graf Obituary

Rev. Elva Lucilla Graf of Salisbury, MD, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the Coastal Hospice in Salisbury. She was 98 years old.

Born in Kingston, NJ on October 16, 1921, Mrs. Graf was the daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Samuel R. Latham and Florence Ella Hall Latham. Her husband, Father Karl H. Graf, died December 31, 2008.

Mrs. Graf had been a Social Worker for the State of Massachusetts Social Services, retiring in 1994. They loaned her to Wicomico County’s Shore up Program for a year in the 80’s to help implement the energy saver program that she had helped develop in Boston. She was also undercover Special Police for the City of Boston for many years.

She always said she was born a Republican and would die a Republican which she did. She was a true politician and ran for several county offices. She was past president of the Lower Shore Republican Women’s Club and an 88 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She attended Asbury University in Wilmore, KY and received her Bachelor’s in Education from Washington College in Chestertown MD and her Master’s in Divinity from Temple University. She taught school and preached in New Jersey, Montana, and Maryland (Caroline County). Mrs. Graf held a “local” preacher’s license from both New Jersey and the Maryland Peninsula Methodist Conferences. She retired to Salisbury to be near family and spent her remaining years there.

Mrs. Graf is survived by her daughter, L. CarlAnn Graf Cornwell (Steven, Sr.) of Salisbury; two grandsons: Steven Cornwell, Jr. of Harrington, DE and Michael Cornwell of Salisbury; one great-grandson: Steven Ray Cornwell, III and one great-great-grandson, Steven Ray Cornwell, IV; and a niece, Sheryl Guyer Peters (John) of Salisbury. She also leaves special friends and caregivers, Patricia Tolley, Karen Oplinger and James Morrow and her service dog Ginger.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie Latham Guyer and Naomi Latham, and a nephew, John Robert Peters, Jr..

A funeral service will be held at 9 AM on Thursday, March 19th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A. located at 12 S. Second Street in Denton. Pastor Kevin Wackett of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Salisbury will officiate. The interment will be private.
