Richard C. North, Jr. of Hanover, PA passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Sprit Lutheran in Hanover, PA. He was 98 years old.
Born in Easton, MD on July 22, 1925, Mr. North was the son of the late Richard Canter North, Sr., and Mary Hoffman North. His first wife, Emily Jean North, died June 21, 2007. Mr. North graduated from Caroline High School in Denton, MD in 1943. He served in the US Army and then worked in Production for the Scott Paper Co. in Chester, PA, retiring after 40 years. In addition, he was an avid golfer and gardener. He had also been a volunteer with the Lutheran Social services and was a devoted Baltimore Orioles Baseball fan. He moved to Hanover, PA in 2007.
Mr. North is survived by his second wife, Linda S. Smith-North of Hanover; a son, Jeffrey R. North and his wife, Barbara of Littlestown, PA; four grandchildren: Beverly Carpenter and Terri North, both of Hanover, PA, and Francis North and Benjamin North and his wife Missy all of Littlestown, PA; and five great grandchildren: Savannah Carpenter, Autumn Carpenter, Caleb Carpenter, Jenna North, and Brady North. In addition to his first wife, Mr. North is preceded in death by a great grandchild, Blake North; and all his brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, September 14th, in the Greensboro Cemetery in Greensboro, MD. If friends wish to send memorial donations in memory of Mr. North, the family suggests sending them to Lutheran Social Services, 2100 Utz Terrace, Hanover, PA 17331.
