Robert Singer Obituary

Robert Dukes Singer (Bob) of Chestertown, Maryland, formerly of Denton, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, MD. He was 89 years old.

Born at home in Greensboro, MD, on May 9, 1935, he was the son of the late Paul Christian Singer and Louise Virginia Dukes Singer.  After graduating from Caroline High School in 1953, Bob went to barber school and pursued a career working for George Chapis in Denton until his enlistment in the U.S. Air Force in May of 1955.  His service took him from basic training in Geneva, NY to bases in San Antonio, TX and Biloxi, MS with his final duty station in Myrtle Beach, SC from 1957 through 1959.

It was in Myrtle Beach that he met the love of his life, Carol Jean Eaton, and took her to her high school prom.  They were married on November 2, 1958, returning to Denton the following year after his honorable discharge where he continued his career barbering as well as working for his father at Singer’s Texaco Service Station in Denton while beginning a side career of farming and extending his service in the Air Force Reserves.  In 1966 he began a Civil Service career as an Electronics Technician at Dover Air Force Base until retirement all the while continuing to help his father at the Texaco Station and farm.

He was active in the community with the Denton Volunteer Fire Department having been recognized by the Caroline County Commissioners in 2009 for more than 55 years of service.   During this same time, he also participated as a Little League Coach, helped children in the 4-H Rifle Club, and most importantly devoted countless hours as a hunter safety instructor for the Department of Natural Resources beginning in 1968 and lasting for than 50 years.

A charter member of the Tuckahoe Steam & Gas Association, having spent years frying chicken with his father Paul, he will also be fondly remembered from his affiliation with the Masonic Lodge Temple #128.

Sailing was his passion and he kept his sailboat for many years at the Miles River Yacht Club in Saint Michaels even securing his USCG Captains license.

Robert is survived by two sons: David Singer (Anne), and Wesley Singer (Lucille); two grandchildren: Ashley Singer, Kristen Singer, and one step-grandchild Rachel Bradley. In addition to his parents Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Jean Singer.
