Robert J. “Bob” Thorpe, Sr. of Ridgely, MD, passed away Monday, June 22, 2020, at the Corsica Hills Center in Centreville, MD. He was 75 years old.
Born in Baltimore City, MD on June 17, 1945, Mr. Thorpe was the son of the late James Elsworth Thorpe and Frances E. Donaghy Darr. He drove a truck for FedEx Freight for many years. He had been a member of the MD Army National Guard in the early 1960’s and was a past member of the Ridgely Volunteer Fire Department. In addition, he enjoyed boating and water sports. He was also a long-time member of the Duncan Donuts Coffee Club.
Mr. Thorpe is survived by his wife, Diane Thorpe of Baltimore; two sons, James Thorpe (Kathy) of Pasadena, MD, and Robert James Thorpe, Jr. (Sissy) of West Virginia; four daughters: Denise Pope (Kevin) of Dover, PA, Vivian Thorpe (Bob) of Owings Mills, MD, Laverne Thorpe (Missy) of Baltimore, and Lisa T. Thomas (Toby) of Federalsburg, MD; four step children; many grandchildren including Alexis, Tara, Taylor, and Brooke; many great grandchildren including Blaze; and his beloved dog, Baby. He was predeceased by a daughter, Katherine “Kaye” Thorpe.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 29th, in the Denton Cemetery.
