Roger Johnson Obituary

Roger Edward Johnson (Joe) of Cordova, MD, passed away peacefully at the Loch Raven VA. Medical Center Hospice in Baltimore, MD on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the age of 76, due to heart failure.

Roger was born at Easton Memorial Hospital on June 21, 1947.  He was the son of the late Roger and Margaret Johnson.  He grew up in Cordova on the family farm; milking cows, planting and harvesting annual crops.  Roger attended Cordova Elementary School and Easton High School, graduating with the class of 1967.  He then attended Chesapeake College before enlisting in the U.S. Army.  Roger was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  He then completed two tours of duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1971.  After returning home, Roger began work as a mason with his father, uncles, and local contractors, building new constructions and restoring historical buildings in Talbot County.  He continued his masonry skills in the Masons Union, traveling throughout the U.S, working with his friend, Calwood, as far North as N. Dakota and as far West as Oregon.  Roger retired in 2007 but continued to work part time in masonry construction.  During the winters, he resided in Florida continuing his masonry trade.  He was a member of the E. E. Streets VFW in Easton and Coats Lodge #102 AF&AM in Easton.  During his retirement, Roger enriched his knowledge and interests in art and religion history while taking classes at Chesapeake College.  He also rode his bike daily and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, which brought him his greatest happiness.

Roger is survived by his brother, Thomas Johnson; sisters: Agnes Foster, Delores Walski (Tom), and Diane Trice; niece, Laura Collins (Rodney); nephews: Don Foster (Meghan), Adam Walski (Stephanie), and Peter Walski; great nephews: Logan Collins, Mason Collins, Cole Foster, and Leon Walski; great niece; Kendall Foster; also, his long-time friends: Gerald Thompson and Steve Clark.
