Ronald I. J. Champagne, “Champ”, of Federalsburg, MD, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 5, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was 84 years old.
Born in Alfred, Maine, Mr. Champagne was the son of the late Gerard Champagne and Hilda Kilda Blanchette Champagne. His beloved wife, Gertrude V. Champagne, died February 12, 2015.
Before moving to Federalsburg, Mr. Champagne had lived in Ridgely since 2003. He had been in the U.S. Marines and afterwards had been a truck driver and had owned and operated a home maintenance business with his wife and operated his own food truck. He belonged to the St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church in Ridgely, MD and was a member of The Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Champagne is survived by a son, Anthony “Tony” W. Champagne and his wife Angel from Ridgely; three daughters: Anne Marie Champagne of Columbia, MD, Rita Champagne Mathur of Frederick, MD, and Tina Louise Champagne-George (Kenneth, Sr.) of Marydel, MD; two brothers: Robert Champagne of Springvale, ME and Roger Champagne of Tampa, FL; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald I. J. Champagne, Jr., and Brian Keith Champagne; a daughter, Wanda Louise Johnson; and a sister, Muriel Rita D'auteuil.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Benedict RCC 408 Central Ave. Ridgely, MD at 10:15 AM on Monday, November 14th, where there will be a viewing/visitation from 9:30 until 10:15 before the Mass. The interment will be in the MD Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD at 12 Noon.
