Sandra Keating Obituary

     Sandra Anne Keating of Denton, MD, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021, at TidalHealth Nanticoke hospital in Seaford, DE. She was 77 years old.

     Born in Washington, D.C., Ms. Keating was the daughter of the late John “Jack” Joseph Murphy and Grace Ona Dennis Murphy. She was a graduate of the Suitland Senior High School “Class of 61” in Suitland, Maryland. She was a 1964 graduate of Lucy Webb Hayes School of Nursing and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of MD in 1972. She attended John Hopkins School of Management completing 30 credit hours in June of 1983.

     Ms. Keating worked in a nursing role for over 36 years with the State of Maryland, retiring as the Director of Nursing for the Caroline County Health Department in 2001. Active in her community, she served on several local and state Boards and was instrumental in starting the Caroline Hospice Foundation, Inc. She was active with the American Legion post 29 in Denton Maryland and enjoyed being the nurse at Girls State for many years and serving as an election official. She enjoyed watching her children grow up and play sports, cards with the “girls”, bowling, shuffle boarding with friends, traveling, cooking and collecting cookbooks.

     Ms. Keating is survived by two sons, John “Tony” Keating (Pam) and Thomas Keating (Jackie), both of Denton, Maryland and a daughter Kathryn Hudson (Rob) of Millsboro, Delaware; a sister Jaqueline Murphy Templeton of Chesapeake Virginia and 9 grandchildren: Jordan, Logan, JD, Joseph, Emily, Olivia, Emma, Owen and Cale. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Michael F. Keating, Sr.; a son, Michael F. Keating, Jr.; a brother, Dennis Murphy; three infant children: Margaret, William, and Joseph.

     A walk-through visitation will be held from 5 until 7 on Friday evening, January 29th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A. located at 12 S. Second Street in Denton where friends may also visit on Saturday morning from 11 to 11:45 after which a Mass of Christian Burial for both Ms. Keating and her son Michael, who passed away on January 12th, will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, January 30th, at the St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church on First Street in Denton. The interment will be 11 AM on Monday, February 1st at the Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD.
