Sidney Mielke Obituary

Sidney Nicholas “Nick” Mielke of Denton, MD, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 7, 2022.  He was 73 years old.
Born in Easton, Mr. Mielke was the son of the late Sidney H. Mielke and Winifred Mundt Mielke. He was raised on “400 Farm”, a diversified farm with a large Guernsey Dairy herd. He grew up in Tunis Mills near Easton, MD and graduated from Easton High School in 1966. He began working for C and P Telephone Company immediately after graduation. Shortly after graduating he was drafted into the US Army.  After basic training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Nick was stationed at Fort Lewis Washington before deployment to Vietnam in December 1968. He served one year tour of duty in Vietnam and returned home Christmas Eve 1969. He was honorably discharged and returned to work at C and P Telephone Company until 1973. He then continued his career as a communication manager at Preston Trucking, Giant foods and Prince George’s County.
Mr. Mielke was the manager of Telecommunications in Prince Georges County, MD as well as working for Howard University and SCI Communications.  He and his wife moved to Caroline County in 2002 and started the Work Horse Farm Rescue and Exotics near Denton. The farm was his pride and joy. He enjoyed nothing more than educating others about all his animals and their unique personalities. He would take animals to visit schools, nursing homes, and churches where he would enrich the lives of those who are less fortunate.
Mr. Mielke is survived by his wife, Diane M. Mielke of Denton; a daughter, Tiffany M. Mielke of Denton; four grandchildren: Sidney Marie Mielke, Elizabeth Rose Mielke, Timothy Nicholas Mielke and Destini D Pritchett; three sisters, Patsy Rhodes (Temple) of Centreville MD and Jeannie Callahan (Johnny) of Cordova MD and late Bonnie Brinsfield (Mac) of Cordova MD; and two brothers, Tommy Mielke (Shelly) of Tunis Mills MD and Michael Mielke (Donna) of Tunis Mills MD, and numerous nieces, nephews and people he took in as family. He was a member of the Miles River Yacht Club and served as commodore in 1992. He was an avid hunter, and enjoyed the outdoors and restoring old farm machinery especially Ford tractors. Nick had a heart of gold and unmatched sense of humor and sincere desire to help anyone he met. Nick was a mentor and role model for those wishing to seek sobriety. The joking never stopped. Nick would counsel, support, sponsor, and find the needed resources for others to achieve the sobriety he maintained for the last 28 and a half years of his life.
