Thomas (Tom) O. Murn, Easton, MD, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022, surrounded by family, at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton, MD. He was 83 years old.
Born in Syracuse, NY, on April 23, 1939, Tom was the son of the late Thomas Owen Murn and Jane Majesky Murn.
Tom was a proud Veteran serving his country from May 1959 through May 1965. During over five years in the United States Air Force, he compiled a very impressive record of highly important duties. Soon after basic training, he was assigned to Detachment 2 Intelligence Training (IT) at Yale University, New Haven, CT, while at Yale September 1959 through June 1960; he majored in Korean Language Training. Soon after completing his time at Yale University, his next assignment would be at Goodfellow Air Force Base in TX, followed by basic Russian Language at Syracuse University; Tom was a Voice Interceptor Processing Specialist (Intelligence) of the Russian Language.
He received an Honorable Discharge May 1965. Tom received the Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, in addition to his other extremely important accomplishments.
Upon Completion of his service in the United States Air Force, Tom returned home and began working for the State of Maryland Emergency Management. After his State Retirement, he worked for many years as a DX Driver for Preston Ford.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Frances C. Murn, Easton; three sons: Martin Murn of Pasadena, MD; Steven Murn, PA, and John Murn (Lenore), Linthicum, MD; three grandchildren: Isaiah, Raven and Elenore; a sister Kathleen Smith, Easton; sister and brother-in-law Richard and Mary Lou Barrow, Easton; a niece and nephew Heather Mulder and Eric Mulder (Rita Mende) and their children E. J., Cody, and Victoria Mulder, T.J. Foote and Harlie Taran. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law Carol Mulder.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; life-long member of the VFW (member of Military Honor Guard) Post 5118 and the American Legion Post 70, Easton, MD.
At 10:30 AM a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Easton on Thursday, October 27, where friends may visit with the family from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in the Church Narthex. The internment will be at the Old St. Joseph’s Church Cemetery, Cordova, MD.
