Valerie S. Kelley Obituary

Valerie Sue Kelley of Denton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Delaware Hospice in Milford, Delaware. She was 71 years old. Born on January 23, 1955, in Baltimore, Maryland, Valerie was the daughter of Gilbert J. Dyer and Toni Ferguson Dyer. She was a graduate of Bruce High School in Westernport, Maryland. Valerie spent most of her adult life in Denton, where she devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family.

For 27 years, Valerie worked as a customer service representative for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield until her early retirement. She was known for her dedication and strong work ethic, but her greatest pride and joy was always her family. Valerie treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren, taking long walks, enjoying beautiful sunsets, and simply being outdoors. She found happiness in life’s simple moments and was always ready to lend a listening ear, offer advice, or share a laugh.

Mrs. Kelley is survived by her three children: Trista A. North of Harrington, Delaware; Patrick L. Kelley of Salisbury, Maryland; and Jeremy J. Kelley (Sherrie) of Salisbury, Maryland. She was a proud and loving grandmother to four granddaughters: Ashlyn North, Kayla North, Scarlett Kelley, and Natalie Kelley.

She is also survived by five siblings: Cindy Sorrells (Matt) of Myersville, Maryland; Gilbert Dyer Jr. (Stephanie) of Clear Spring, Maryland; Marty Dyer (Wanda) of Walnut Cove, North Carolina; David Dyer (Carolyn) of Dade City, Florida; and Peggy Hamilton of Thurmont, Maryland.

Valerie was exceptionally proud of her family and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Glen Kelley, and her parents, Toni Ferguson Dyer and Gilbert J. Dyer Sr.

The family extends special recognition and heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Andrew Burdan, Kim Rigby, and Carmen Valez, for their compassionate care, as well as to her beloved cat, who brought her comfort and companionship.

A funeral service will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, March 6, at Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 South Second Street, Denton, Maryland, where friends may call beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock, Maryland.
