Verna “Granny” Lee Humphries of Denton, MD, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Compass Hospice in Centreville, MD. She was 87 years old.
Born at home in Stevensville, MD on February 25, 1938, Granny was the daughter of the late Vernon Clark and Minnie Timms McShane Clark. Her husband, Terry Lee Humphries (known as Grandpa), passed away on February 16, 2006.
Granny had worked for many years as a Toll Taker at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family.
Granny is survived by her daughter with whom she lived, Lisa Hubbard (Rodney) of Denton; two sons, Patrick Earl Collins of Denton and Carl-Lee Davis of Denton; a brother, Franky Clark (Sharon) of Ridgely, MD; a sister-in-law, Mary Clark; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Collins Yancy of Boston, VA, Candy Newnam of Snow Hill, MD, Matthew Newnam (Casey) of Cambridge, MD, Chris Newnam of Denton, Dustin Collins of Denton, Terry Lee Collins of Denton, Andy Davis of Harmon, MD, and David Davis of Federalsburg; and fifteen great grandchildren: Hiyana Collins of Boston, VA, Brianna Newnam of Cambridge, Charles Newnam of Salisbury, Kyleigh Newnam of Salisbury, MD, Hayleigh Era of Snow Hill, MD, Lillia Storgeon of Snow Hill, Jaydan Newnam of Denton, Camden Newnam of Berlin, MD, Jordan Newnam of North Carolina, Skyler Newnam of Cambridge, Naomi Williams of Cambridge, Adam Schieferstein of Cambridge, Christian Collins of North Carolina, Riley Collins of NC, and Tuesdae Collins of NC . In addition to her husband, Granny is predeceased by a son, Leon (Hammy) Collins; a grandchild, Charles Newman; and a brother, Wayne Clark.
A memorial service will be held at 6 PM on Thursday, December 4th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., where friends may visit with the family from 5 until 6 before the service.
