Vernon Melvin Urie

     Vernon M. Urie of Salisbury, MD, formerly of Greensboro, MD, passed away at the Peninsula Regional Health Center in Salisbury on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. He was 82 years old.

    Born in Chestertown, MD, Mr. Urie was the son of the late Charles Melvin Urie and Marjorie Corrine Hague Urie. He was a 1956 graduate of Chestertown High School and then served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Alger Oil, Inc. of Chestertown installing HVAC systems, retiring in 2008. He loved talking with his wife, family, and camping. He enjoyed working with his hands and fixing things and was an avid model railroad enthusiast. He and his wife were members of the Greensboro Baptist Church.

     Mr. Urie is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Linda M. Urie, also of Salisbury; a daughter, Jennifer M. Payne (Harless) of Ridgely, MD; a son, David W. Bixler (Michelle) of Ridgely; a sister, Alice Ann Cornelius of Greensboro, MD; Grandchildren: Kali Gregson (Stephen), Michael Lane, Sarah Payne (Dustin), Sierra Davey (Patrick), Abigail Payne, Adam Lane, Savannah Jordan (Tim), George Bixler and six great grandchildren; and Nieces: Julie Haynes (Learie), Jackie Geres (Chris), Willa Scharch (Tom), Nicki Cornelius (Brad); five great nieces and nephews: Kimberly & Thomas Cahall, Tristan and Lane Scharch, Brittany Haynes and two great-great nieces. He was predeceased by a son, Andrew Scott Bixler (Shawna).

     Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, February 23rd, at the Greensboro Baptist Church located at 401 W. Sunset Ave. in Greensboro where friends may visit from 10 until 11 before the service. The interment will be private.
